Salara

Pescadero, Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico10 villas and 17 rooms across two locations · Independent

Researched and sourced by hand. Last reviewed 2026-08-19.

A boutique property in Pescadero, fifteen minutes from Todos Santos, that opened in February 2026 and runs as two hotels at once. Hotel Tierra sits in the desert with ten villas and eleven rooms, several with private plunge pools, and holds the restaurant and bar. Hotel Playa is a mile away on the beach with six ocean-view rooms and its own pool, and guests move freely between them. The buildings are wood and concrete with large openings to the desert, and the property states its construction is naturally insulating enough to lean less on air conditioning.

What is on the record

The pools at both locations are saltwater rather than conventionally chlorinated, which is the clearest specified fact here. The property runs a water circulation treatment plant and states its cleaning products and guest amenities are biodegradable, with no single-use plastic and a refillable glass carafe in the room. A non-toxic travel publication stayed four nights, worked through its verification questionnaire, and confirmed no fragrance in the rooms or public spaces, cotton bedding and towels, filtered drinking water and open-air ventilation with no stuffiness.

Where a new property still shows

The same review recorded what has not landed yet, and it is worth reading straight. The kitchen cooks in canola alongside olive oil. The bath products contain fragrance and no unscented option is offered on request. A faint laundry scent carried on the towels. There is no wellness programming at all: the spa and cold plunge were still under construction at the time of the stay. Nothing names a linen mill, a cleaning brand, a farm or a filtration specification, so almost everything here stops at claimed rather than specified.

The upgrade is cheap from here

This is a property with the right instincts and six months of operating history. Naming the filtration on the water it already treats, naming the farms it already buys from, and offering an unscented bath option would move three pathways at once without changing a single thing about the building. Records like this one usually improve fast, because the gap is disclosure rather than construction.

What is not publishedthe gaps we looked for and did not find

This property opened in February 2026 and reads like it. Water is filtered and a circulation treatment plant is named, but no filtration specification, source or test panel is published. Nothing anywhere names a linen mill, a mattress, a cleaning brand or a farm, so every materials and food item here stops at claimed. Nothing is published on air filtration, on lighting, on electromagnetic load, or on any acoustic specification. The publication that stayed here recorded the gaps as well as the wins: the kitchen uses canola alongside olive oil, the bath products contain fragrance with no unscented option offered, and a faint laundry fragrance carried on the towels. The property states it holds no sustainability certification, and none is claimed here.

Not published is not unsafehow to read these scores, and what this index does not promise

A low score means a property has not published information. It does not mean the property is unsafe, unhealthy or poorly run.

These scores measure disclosure. These scores describe disclosure, not property quality. This index has no commercial relationship with the properties listed unless a badge on the listing says otherwise.

Conditions change, and we will not always know. Every record is a snapshot of what a property had published when we read it, and that date is on the page. Conditions change: a property can refit, change suppliers or replace a system at any time, and nothing requires it to tell us. We re-read records and ask properties directly for updates, but there will always be a gap between what is true today and what was published when we looked. Use this as a frame of reference for what to ask, not as a substitute for asking. Take your own questions to the property before you book, and tell us if you find something we have wrong.

We report what properties publish. We do not inspect, certify or vouch for any property on this index unless a listing says we assessed it on site, and we accept no responsibility for decisions made or outcomes experienced on the basis of what you read here.

Questions travelers askwater, air, EMF, and whether it is worth it

Questions travelers ask about Salara

Does Salara publish water quality testing?

Yes, at specification level: a named system, supplier or standard is on the record, without a published measurement. Scored 2 of 3.

What is the air quality like in the rooms?

We can only report what is published about the rooms themselves. It is claimed but not specified: the property asserts it without naming a system, supplier or measurement. Scored 1 of 3.

Is Salara low-EMF?

No measurement is published. Only 15 of the 92 properties we have researched publish any bedroom EMF information at all, so this is the industry norm, not an outlier.

Is Salara worth it?

We score evidence, not experience. On evidence, it ranks 62 of 92 researched records. The strongest documented pathways are Water Integrity and Air Quality; nothing is published on Light Rhythm or EMF Harmony.
