Eight white board-and-batten cottages under three hundred preserved live oaks, fifteen minutes west of downtown Austin. The Wayback is founder-run, started by a mother and daughter, and it is one of the most completely disclosed small properties on this index. The bedding is named to brand: Under The Canopy percale cotton, Pom Pom at Home duvets and Belgian linen throws, Honest Cotton robes. The cleaning chemistry is named too, Branch Basics in the laundry, Puracy and Molly's Suds for housekeeping, and nothing on the property carries synthetic fragrance. Naming brands matters because a brand can be checked and a promise cannot.

Water and the kitchen
Aquasana filtration runs the entire property. The same filtered line feeds the cafe's drinking water and food prep and a bottle refill station in the cabana, and the outdoor pool is saltwater rather than conventionally chlorinated. The cafe cooks in Texas olive oil and butter only, no seed oils, and its suppliers are published farm by farm: Gundermann Acres, Hi-Fi Mycology, Little Bear Produce, Lonestar Lettuce Growers, Wagyu~X, Mill-King Creamery and Lira Rossa. A greywater system collects used water into a retention pond that irrigates the oaks. Girls Who Eat, the non-toxic travel publication that reviewed the property in person, rates it Gold Star, its highest tier.
What would move it up
The record is specified nearly everywhere and measured nowhere. Girls Who Eat says directly that in-room air filtration was the one thing it could not verify, and nothing is published on lighting, electromagnetic load or sound. For a property already running one named filtration brand end to end, a single published water panel or an air reading in one cottage would be the cheapest possible upgrade: it would only prove what the place already does.

What is not publishedthe gaps we looked for and did not find
Girls Who Eat, which walked through the property's product choices with its founder and followed up with the team to verify them, states plainly that in-room air filtration was the one thing it could not confirm. Nothing is published on ventilation, air measurement or lighting, and nothing on electromagnetic load. The greywater retention pond irrigates the grounds rather than touching guest water, so it is recorded here and not scored. No third-party certification is held, and none is claimed.

Not published is not unsafehow to read these scores, and what this index does not promise
A low score means a property has not published information. It does not mean the property is unsafe, unhealthy or poorly run.
These scores measure disclosure. These scores describe disclosure, not property quality. This index has no commercial relationship with the properties listed unless a badge on the listing says otherwise.
Conditions change, and we will not always know. Every record is a snapshot of what a property had published when we read it, and that date is on the page. Conditions change: a property can refit, change suppliers or replace a system at any time, and nothing requires it to tell us. We re-read records and ask properties directly for updates, but there will always be a gap between what is true today and what was published when we looked. Use this as a frame of reference for what to ask, not as a substitute for asking. Take your own questions to the property before you book, and tell us if you find something we have wrong.
We report what properties publish. We do not inspect, certify or vouch for any property on this index unless a listing says we assessed it on site, and we accept no responsibility for decisions made or outcomes experienced on the basis of what you read here.
Questions travelers askwater, air, EMF, and whether it is worth it
Questions travelers ask about The Wayback
Does The Wayback publish water quality testing?
Yes, at specification level: a named system, supplier or standard is on the record, without a published measurement. Scored 2 of 3.
What is the air quality like in the rooms?
We can only report what is published about the rooms themselves. No. Nothing is published, and we looked. That is a statement about the public record, not about safety.
Is The Wayback low-EMF?
No measurement is published. Only 15 of the 92 properties we have researched publish any bedroom EMF information at all, so this is the industry norm, not an outlier.
Is The Wayback worth it?
We score evidence, not experience. Its sources are still being transcribed, so it is not yet ranked. The strongest documented pathways are Water Integrity and Materials and Textiles; nothing is published on Air Quality or Light Rhythm.
